Personal Meditation and
Home Yoga Practice
Do you have a fiery nature that needs cooling? Is your disposition sluggish and needing more spark? Do you have a wandering mind that desires stability? Are you experiencing anxiety or high levels of stress? Do you long to understand your life’s purpose?
If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, a personal home yoga practice and custom-designed meditation practice might be your answer.
Sue works individually with students to develop home practices that benefit their daily lives. Her approach is informed by the prescriptive method she learned from advanced studies with her teacher, Yogarupa Rod Stryker, as well as her own dedicated meditation practice over many years as a yogini.
Students brand new to yoga and advanced practitioners, including yoga teachers, come to Sue to begin their studies, refine their practice, or perhaps take it up a notch. The goal is to bring the student’s life into balance and clarity, to awaken joy, and to expand capacity for living the most fulfilling life possible. You need only a desire to enhance the quality of your life and a willingness to explore the benefits that a consistent home practice can bring to your body, mind and spirit. See testimonials.
The initial private session begins with a conversation centered on questions such as: What’s working in your life, and what isn’t? What are your goals, dreams and aspirations? How much time can you realistically devote to a daily practice? Informed by this insight and the wisdom of her lineage, Sue designs a customized home practice that might include several components, such as:
- physical yoga practices for safety, strength, flexibility, balance and mobility
- breathing practices to relax the nervous system, balance the brain, or increase vitality in an area of the body where energy is stuck
- imagery practice to release the mind from established, non-productive thinking patterns
- meditation practices specifically chosen to enhance all qualities of the student's life (physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual).
Ultimately, all approaches lead to meditation which is the essence of a Para Yoga practice. Meditation is individually designed to bring the student's life into balance; to build clarity and self-knowledge; to become filled with joy; and to lessen fear. Tantric (Para Yoga) philosophy teaches that if a person changes their prana (life force energy), the mind will follow.
Sue says this about meditation: "On any day that my mind becomes involved with the fluctuations of life: sadness, self-judging, fear or racing thoughts, meditation brings me back to center, balance, focus, joy and light. Meditation is a daily gift that informs my life with Sri (unity and beauty)."
Introducing as many people as possible to the shakti (power) of a meditation practice is one of Sue's life goals. To honor her teachers and the lineage that empowers her work to guide students to a personal practice, Sue donates the $85 fee from the meditation session to the Himalayan Institute's worldwide humanitarian projects.
